Move In Day! (not...)

Don't you just love when everything is perfectly on track and going well and then *BOOM*, roadblock.

Nothing has been done on the house in over a week.  The electrician has not been there for whatever stupid reason and we are not progressing in the slightest.  Our original estimated move in date was July 23rd.  Our official paper said by the end of the month.  I'm predicting the third week in August.

In the grand scheme of things, it's not bad, but I start teaching/coaching in mid-August and getting in during the last week of July would have been HUGE in making sure things are calm and ready for me to start work.

I'm just very frustrated with the progress and how there doesn't seem to be a push to get more accomplished.

Other side notes-

We don't have an outside lock on our garage door.  Jace said that the garage doors do not come with a lock unless requested at no additional charge.  To our recollection, this was not explained to us and we are not able to get a new garage door.  Well, I went back and looked at our selection papers and guess what???  We selected a garage door with a lock.  We will be discussing this with Jace.

We still need a light, outlet and hose bib outside of our basement access doors.  When will that get done?

None of the outlets or lights are run in the basement.  Tick tock tick tock.

During the selection meeting, we opted for one light next to the front door.  They charged us for two lights in the price list, showed two lights in the design part of the blueprints, but only one light in the electrical page of the blueprints.  I don't want the electrician dicking around with our siding, so I'm just going to request money back for the charged light.

  1. I've noticed some of the follow through on the details gets lost in a void somewhere. Do you have their $500 guarantee in your paperwork that if they miss the date they give you, you get $500 back?

    1. Oh yes, I clearly remember that and have it in writing. A month ago, I honestly didn't think there would be problems and now there hasn't been any work done in almost two weeks. Our scheduled end date is July 31st. Yeah, right.

  2. We have never be given a move-in date. That might be because we had to wait so long for AEP to run electric to the house. But we have watched 5 weeks go by now that will try your patience let me tell you. We have no electrical outlets except one downstairs at the main panel. So its good to see you have some working outlets.

    1. It's nice to see things are moving for you. We are barely moving along and only just yesterday had the inspector come for the electric. Now, we can get permanent power hooked up, but who knows how long that will take. WH didn't give you a certificate that shows your guaranteed end date? Ours is today and that is clearly not going to happen. I'm not a very happy camper and I too have school starting in a few weeks and was hoping to be done by then.
